Practical course

This course is conducted in the Czech language.

Develop a variety of drawing techniques and discover your own style.

This drawing course encourages the individual development of students. Through various assignments, we will explore drawing shortcuts and see how both space and depth can be expressed through simple lines. The goal of the head teacher, Tomáš Absolon, is to teach drawing through the lenses of multiple professional and artistic contexts. Students will discover drawing from a formal setting - they will learn how to choose the right kind of line, drawing gesture, appropriate choice of base, colour and paper format. In terms of content, students can expect several assignments in the form of “drawing from reality”, where they will focus on drawing portraits, landscapes or architecture; students will also learn to work with their imagination in the so-called “drawing from the head”, where, in turn, students learn to illustrate their ideas, conjuring up images in their minds that they then draw, either in a more realistic style or abstract.

  • Tomáš wants to motivate his students to experiment and learn different techniques: “You don’t have to know how to draw to be able to express yourself. In addition to the technical focus on drawing, we will develop our creative thinking.”

  • The time spent together will be divided into group as well as individual consultations according to the needs of each student. During the semester, various professionals artists will be invited to share their experiences with art and beyond.

  • The studio welcomes students who wish to master the technique of drawing as their primary medium, as well as students whose focus is in another medium that requires a foundational knowledge of drawing.

MgA. Tomáš Absolon graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of drawing by Jiří Petrboek and is currently continuing his postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, in the studio of Painting (by Luděk Rathouský). In 2016 he became one of the winners of the Critics’ Prize for Young Painting. Tomáš is interested in the medium of painting, through which he explores the relationship between reality and various levels of abstraction. Absolon’s paintings are multi-layered, with painterly gestures or sharp, even “illustrative” lines appearing in the endless flat spaces of the background. Although Tomáš is a painter by nature, drawing is the backbone of his artistic work.
